With a virtualisation infrastructure it is essential to be able to manage local physically connected USB devices within the remote virtual desktop, using optimised technology. The solution relies on forwarding the USB protocol from the local device to the virtual desktop by redirecting the communication path. This is called USB Redirection.
It allows to export, to the virtual desktop, the USB resources connected to the Thin Client.
Automatic share all plugged devices: selecting this parameter will share all USB devices plugged into the thin client to the virtual desktop. Shared resources are not anymore visible from the thin client. This is a not recommended option.
Sharing device based on category: with this option, it is possible to flag the device categories to be exported via redirection. E.g. the Human Interface devices category is not selected; in this way, mouse, pad and keyboard are not exported and remain available on the thin client.
Allow the automatic splitting of composite USB Devices: When selected, a composite USB device will automatically be split into its individual components (interfaces). The class rules will be applied to these individual devices. Do not select this option unless the device being redirected does not work on the VDI. In this case, the device could be a composite USB device that needs to be split in order to work (e.g. dictaphone).
Clicking on "OK" will close the window and save the configuration options.
Exceptions list: By clicking on this button, it is possible to manage a single device independently of its category. You can specify whether the USB device should be exported or not exported using the USB Redirection.
The Exception Device List contains all the devices for which an exception has been done at the moment. Every entry on the list can be changed or deleted by selecting the entry and clicking on Edit or Delete.
The Currently Plugged Devices List contains all the currently plugged devices. If you plug a new device into the thin client after opening the Exception Device List window, click on Refresh. To add a new device to the exclusion list, select it from this list and click on Add to Ex. list.
Select from Exception whether the device has to be Never export or Always export within the USB Redirection. Then click OK to add the device to the Exception Device List.
